Learn to Spin Yarn with a Spindle
$40/includes all materials/handouts.
Class Duration: One three (3) hour session.
Learn to spin on a spindle and make wonderful, unique yarns. In a matter of a few hours you will learn how to make a single and two-ply yarn from a variety of natural fibers in a batt, roving or top form. Come and learn how humankind began cloth production on the simplest tools. Advance registration is required.


Spinning Wheel Basics
$150/all materials/handouts provided. Appropriate for Ages 12+.
Beautiful one-of-a-kind yarns are all that's between you and a spinning wheel. Learn the basics of spinning on a spinning wheel from fiber processing, twist, single yarn construction and plying methods. We will spin a variety of natural fibers and create unique yarns. By class end, you will have a working understanding of yarn construction, from fleece to finish. Missed the date? No worries, you can join in at any time. All you need to bring is some enthusiasm. Advance registration is required.



Rigid Heddle Weaving
$150.00/all materials/handouts provided. Appropriate for Ages 12+.

Weave a scarf and wear it in one day! Using a rigid heddle loom, students will learn the basics of warping and weaving on this simple, portable loom. Enjoy an all-day retreat with a finished product at the end. Advance registration is required.








Beginning Multi-Shaft Weaving
$350.00/all materials/handouts provided/ 8 classes per session. Appropriate for Ages 15+.
Handwoven cloth is the most beautiful cloth imaginable. Learn to warp a loom, read a weaving draft and design a one-of-a-kind scarf or table runner. Small groups and/or one-on-one studio classes are available. This or other beginning courses are required prior to taking any other weaving classes offered by Far North Fibers. Advance registration is required.








NEW! Rug Weaving Sampler Class
$350.00/all materials/handouts/looms provided/ Maximum of 4 students. Appropriate for beginning to intermediate weavers who can read and understand weaving drafts.

What's not to love about handwoven rugs? In this round-robin class, you will explore four (4) different weave structures appropriate for rug weaving: Rep Weave, Krokbragd, Summer & Winter and Rosepath. Additionally, we will discuss appropriate material selections for warp and weft, and discuss the various rug finishing techniques. You will weave your samples on jack and countermarche floor looms that have been pre-warped for your convenience. By the end of the weekend you will depart with a rug sample notebook and the knowledge to weave warp and weft faced rugs for your pleasure. Advance registration is required.

$350.00/all materials/handouts/looms provided/ Maximum of 4 students. Appropriate for beginning to intermediate weavers who can read and understand weaving drafts.
Learning to unlock the design potential in block weaves greatly enhances any weavers' toolkit. In this round-robin course we will explore four (4) block weaves: Summer & Winter, Atwater-Bronson Lace, Turned Twill, and Crackle (perhaps others!). You will learn the exciting design opportunities unique to each of these weave structure while you will weave your samples on jack and countermarche floor looms that have been pre-warped for your convenience. By the end of the weekend you will depart with a block weave sample notebook and the knowledge to draft your own projects using block substitution and profile drafting. Advance registration is required. 



NEW! Dressing Your Loom with Confidence

​This class is a is a hands-on opportunity to learn how to confidently and self-assuredly beam any loom of any size.  By beaming your loom in this manner your warps will offer you a trouble-free, joyful weaving experience.  By the end of this class you will have learned two beaming techniques that will provide you with the means to successfully dress your loom and enjoy weaving from a smooth, trouble-free warp. Advance registration is required.
